Our newest development project is taking off! Yesterday, demolition began at our site at 7th & Cherry on First Hill. This 7-story apartment building will provide 77 units of permanent supportive housing for homeless men and women plus 3 units for live-in staff members. By the autumn of 2017, we’ll be able to bring even more men and women in off of the streets.

Similar to other buildings in our portfolio, this project will include community space, offices, and 24-hour front desk support to provide “eyes on the street” for the neighborhood. Additionally, the building will include extensive landscaping improvements along Cherry Street that will benefit the community and highlight the unique history of First Hill. Existing cherry trees along the property will be replaced with three new, healthy Akebono Cherry trees.

We’re thankful to the First Hill community for welcoming us to the neighborhood! First Hill community partners—including the First Hill Improvement Association, Northwest Harvest, and Trinity Episcopal Church—have worked with us along the way, and First Hill residents and neighbors have provided us with valuable feedback at community meetings held over the course of the design review process. We also really appreciated the opportunity to join with the community for a neighborhood clean-up around Earth Day in April!

Watch for news on our formal groundbreaking in June, but for now, here are a few snapshots of the demolition!
