Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month with ACRS

Posted May 29, 2022

We’re celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month with ACRS, with whom we partner to provide necessary and life-changing services in our region.

Asian Counseling Referral Service is grounded in a commitment to social justice and provides services that advance the health, well-being, dignity and empowerment of Asian and Pacific Islanders and other communities experiencing disparities in health, human services and education.

Both ACRS and Plymouth understand the critical role of behavioral health care in a person’s housing stability.

“We understand that social determents of health directly impact a person’s housing stability, so we provide a wide array of services and coordinated care that aims to improve a person’s overall health,” says Kelly Thao, who is the Housing Coordinator at ACRS. “In one stop, clients can receive care and services for behavioral health, recovery treatment, physical health, oral health, acupuncture, employment, nutrition through our food bank, medication at our on-site pharmacy, and much more.”

ACRS goes beyond building an integrated health care model for their clients; they ensure that treatment and programming are made accessible to the many diverse Asian American and Pacific Islander communities of our region.

“Many of our staff share the same cultures, ethnic backgrounds, immigration experiences, and speak the same languages as our clients,” says Yoon Joo Han, MSW, Behavioral Health Director at ACRS. “As a result, they successfully build trusting relationships together and provide more effective care by incorporating clients’ beliefs and values, utilizing local ethnic resources, and creating culturally relevant interventions for better outcomes.”

We’re proud to highlight the essential services ACRS provides in our community. Join us in celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month by learning more about and supporting ACRS at acrs.org.
