A Discussion on Veterans, Homelessness, and the City of Seattle
Tuesday, October 30, 2018 – 6:00 p.m.
Zillow Group HQ, 1301 2nd Avenue, 30th Floor
On a single night in January 2017, 40,056 veterans (approximately 9 percent of all homeless adults) were experiencing homelessness across the United States. Like civilians, veterans face challenges, such as lack of affordable housing and economic instability, that can cause them to become homeless. But veterans must also navigate a return to civilian life after multiple and often extended deployments, which can, in turn, put a veteran at higher risk of becoming homeless.
The Promoters of Plymouth are pleased to host a discussion about veteran homelessness in honor of Veterans’ Day. A panel of leaders in our community will discuss the causes of homelessness in veterans, the challenges and issues veterans face navigating life outside of the military, and the work being done to end veteran homelessness. The discussion will conclude with a Q&A session and suggestions of how we as a community can support veterans experiencing homelessness.
Panelists:
- Seema L. Clifasefi, Ph.D., MSW, Co-Director of the Harm Reduction Research & Treatment Center, University of Washington
- Emma Horowitz, LICSW, Community Housing & Outreach Services, VA Puget Sound Health Care System
- Kelli Larsen, Chief Program Officer, Plymouth Housing
- Liz Morris, HCV Technical Trainer, Seattle Housing Authority
Tickets are $5; seating is limited.
