Please Take 10 Minutes to Be an Advocate This Week

Congress Needs to Hear YOUR Voices

By Kelli Larsen, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Plymouth Housing Group

The President has proposed that Congress provide $2.480 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2016 for HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants – a 16 percent increase over the final fiscal year 2015 funding level. This increase would fund 25,500 units of permanent supportive housing.

Plymouth receives funds from this grant program to provide case management services and support to residents in all of our buildings.

We must take action this week to ensure Congress follows through on these recommendations.

Please join us in contacting Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell, as well as your representatives in the House, to request their support for the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program.

The House and Senate are organizing separate “Dear Colleague” letters in support of HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants, and we are asking our representatives to sign on to the letter. As of this publishing date, no Washington state representatives have signed the letters.

You can find your U.S. Representatives and their contact information here.

Please join the House letter in support of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants program. This is a critical funding source for programs working to end homelessness in King County and Washington state. Plymouth Housing Group depends on this funding to provide services to residents in permanent supportive housing.

Signatures are due by March 23, and you can join by contacting Sean Gard in Rep. Moore’s office at sean.gard@mail.house.gov.
