Connecting Tenants to History—and to Each Other

Posted March 3, 2014

Some of Plymouth’s most popular—and important— community celebrations occur as part of Black History Month.

Russell, Sheila and Michelle enjoy the camaraderie in the room.

Plymouth tenants look forward to our Black History Month series each year, with many volunteering and sharing their talents.

We capped off this year’s celebrations by welcoming back an always-popular guest speaker, Sheila Houston of Rare Coins Ministries.

Sheila inspired everyone by adapting the famous “I Have a Dream” speech of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., merging it with her personal story to demonstrate how perseverance and devotion towards a goal can lead to success.

Sheila’s message resonated with our tenants, and it was expressed though cheering and many other forms of validations. It was quite inspiring!

Michelle touched our hearts.

That same evening, brilliant building assistant Michelle Wise-Bailey (known throughout Plymouth for the sweetness of her spirit and the power of her voice) moved us all deeply with her rendition of  “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.”

And when immensely talented tenant Russell Burrell leapt up to sing “Amazing Grace,” he lifted hands and hearts while bringing down the house.

Dancing, laughter and joy rang true throughout the celebration as tenants built hope, trust and positive relationships.

We would not be able to provide these remarkable activities without the support of our donors.  We are extremely grateful!
