It is our belief that no one should ever feel invisible.
When people move into an apartment with Plymouth Housing Group, they become part of a larger community as they settle into their new home. They are no longer invisible. Our community shares many things—from success stories to Holiday meals—and when a tenant passes away, the loss is felt by everyone.
To address this feeling of loss, and to help with healing, Plymouth staff began the Memorial Quilt Project. Each person who has passed away while living at a Plymouth building will be represented by a fabric swatch like the beautiful example you see here.
In an accompanying book, all people memorialized on the quilt will be remembered by name, with a photo of their swatch and memories of their lives.
The Memorial Quilt Committee, consisting of four Plymouth employees, is currently developing the plan for gathering memories. Collecting stories and photos will be a long process, but we hope to see the quilts in buildings by the end of the year. Please stay tuned for further developments!
In a very successful “Day of Quilting,” community volunteers joined Plymouth residents and staff to create memorial quilts for each Plymouth building.
